Class runs the same way every time. Same opening, same order, same closing, so the student knows what comes next.

If a drill is not working, the coach changes the drill. The student is never asked to change to fit the class.

Your first visit

What a first visit looks like

Here is exactly what happens, step by step, so you know before you walk in.

  1. Step 1

    Before you come in

    You talk with a coach by phone or in person. Tell us what the student likes, what sets them off, how they communicate, and what a good day looks like. Nothing clinical, just useful.

  2. Step 2

    Arriving

    Come a few minutes early. We walk the student through the space and show them the mat, the seating, the bathroom, and where family will be sitting.

  3. Step 3

    Meeting the coach

    One coach introduces themselves and stays with the student for the visit, so there is one face to get used to instead of several.

  4. Step 4

    On the mat

    We start with something simple and physical. Watching first is fine. Joining in late is fine. Sitting out part of it is fine.

  5. Step 5

    If it gets to be too much

    The student steps off, resets, and comes back if they want to. We do not push through a meltdown and we do not treat it as a failed visit.

  6. Step 6

    Before you leave

    The coach tells the family what they saw, what they would try next, and what class would fit. You decide from there with no pressure.

What ages is the adaptive program for?
Ages 13 and up. The Adaptive Program at Embellish Kickboxing Academy in Elk Grove is built for teens and young adults, and the academy teaches the program as martial arts built around children, teens, and young adults. Families with younger students should call the academy so a coach can point them to the right class.
Is prior martial arts experience needed?
No. Most students in the Adaptive Program at Embellish Kickboxing Academy start with zero experience. Coaches teach one small piece at a time, so the first day is about getting comfortable in the room, not keeping up with anyone.
What happens on a hard day?
A hard day is a normal day here, and nobody is asked to leave for it. Coaches at the Elk Grove academy give the student space, drop back to something easy and familiar, and let them rejoin when they are ready. No family is pulled aside afterward and told the class was disrupted.
Can a parent or caregiver stay and watch?
Yes. Families are welcome to stay for every class at Embellish Kickboxing Academy in Elk Grove. There is seating along the mat, and families choose how close they sit.
