What Age Should My Child Start Martial Arts?

5 min read · Embellish Kickboxing Academy, Elk Grove CA

If you've been wondering when to start your child in martial arts, the honest answer is: probably sooner than you think. At Embellish, our Mini Titans program is designed specifically for ages 3 to 6, using play-based drills that teach listening, focus, and coordination before any real technique.

Ages 3–6: Mini Titans

Kids this age aren't ready for long technical classes. They're ready to move, follow instructions, and feel proud of small wins. Mini Titans builds the foundation of attention span, body control, and confidence.

Ages 7–9: Beginner Kids

By age 7, most kids can focus for a full 45-minute class. Beginner Kids introduces real martial arts technique, belt progression, and the structure that builds discipline at home and school.

Ages 10–14: Young Teens

Older kids and pre-teens benefit from the physical challenge, teamwork, and personal accountability of more advanced classes. They get fit, learn real skills, and form lasting friendships.

Signs your child is ready

  • Can follow basic instructions from another adult
  • Has energy that needs a positive outlet
  • Could use more structure, focus, or confidence
  • Wants to try something new and physical

The best way to know? Come in for a class. We'll match your child with the right program in five minutes.
